With SME 3012 (Shelter 901), Ortofon RMG 309 (Orotofon S15-T) and Micro 237 (french mono cartridge early 50's, unbeatable)...I couldn't really get the sound I wanted out of the TT until I put it on the SR stands, I envy your vibraplane but trying shi...

Okay, since you ask, I think I have said it before, and I consider it kind of pointless since we are talking more for the sake of nostalgia not anything to do with what we may do with our audio systems in the present. Anyway, yes I owned the Rosewood...
First, it seems like the tubes are starved. They are running very low current. The 12AX7 is also at low voltage. I'm guessing they are running at about 0.3mA at 65V plate. This operating point is way down...

Dear Romy,I've bought their Sussarro cartridge. It's something very different from other moving coils. If there is a chance try it.Armen...
This is funny that you, the British guy, buy a European made cartridge in Japan…
Yes, I'm laughing - I've saved 40% on the Euro price! ;o) Brian. ...

Ed, I never had this cartridge. As I understand the “C” should have identical motor with the 103D but have a different needle profile. I presume that it sounds similar to 103D, doesn’t? Rgs, The caT...

can have a strong enough field to interact with the cartridge, but electrostatic charge, if created, might have an influence in the way the needle contacts the vinyl.Romy, did you notice if the disc had more static than usual?Rgrds....

This is the point, Paul: is it a self-propelled, self-ass-licking FR7 club or does this cart has any merit?Old vs. new, new vs. old...in the world of planned obsolescnce I do not know how to navigate. There is a myriad of models, but what they are wor...

I love the "meaty" sound of those cartridges! But it isn't enough for me.If you like it, it doesn't matter at all whether it is anything like the "original", and hopefully it will at least remain viable for you.In 6-8 weeks I hope to continue where ...

Wasn't sure where to put this but has to be seen to be believed.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJ9tCRh41OMI think this is at a show in Bangkok. I'm amazed the exhibitors allowed it to happen. That Ikeda cartridge isn't really designed for this kind o...

What you have there Romy is essentially the cartridge Ortofon introduced in 1948, the first production moving coil cartridge.
The motor is the same, just the "suspension" material changed from india rubber to a modern elastomer AFAIK. Also the G-sty...

Romy, so if I understood you correctly I should be able to use any decent cartridge on this arm, just as long as I add enough weight to it? Which cartridges can I look at (I don't really have a bidget at this point)?...

A friend of mine had the same problem. He cured it by moving the pp unit as far away as possible from the cartridge.Bill...

Adrian, I have not tried the top Deccas for many years. My last experience with them was as ever: I absolutely loved their unrivaled immediacy and presence, which I found totally addictive, and it also made other cartridges sound pretty pathetic by ...

Tks Romy, well...the SME has actually a mass of 9.5gr. Could eventually use a Micro MA505 with a slightely higher mass (guess around 11gr), have u ever tried it with the Shelter ? Was also wondering if the Ortofon T30 cd be used with some sense to ch...

One potential danger with ionizers is that they produce ozone, which deterioratesrubber. So I would be carefull with blowing ionized air onto the cartridge directly....

Sometimes cleaning the pin-and-socket connections will breathe new life into a "fading" tube. LIkewise, RCA jacks and un-soldered ground connections, not to mention cartridge pins. I keep saying I will make up and keep a log, but I haven't done it ...

Well, I think it may be something like Tominari of Dynavector used to do with his Phono stage a while ago. He considered the cartridge as a current source which sorts of 'unloads' it. http://www.dynavector.com/products/amp/e_pha200.html...

Hi Romy, I haven't been listening to much analog past few years, so,thout I would adjust my 901 and get back to basics. I really like this cartridge and forgot how great the bass can be. It is lovely on pianoforte, simple schubert songs...

N-set, I was somehow thinking of the (German...) EMTs when I "remembered" "meaty". Sorry. I have no idea how your newly modified cartridge might sound. The rest, if generic, remains apropos, I think.Good luck.Best regards,Paul...

Considering the minute amount of energy "created" (transformed) in a phono cartridge, perhaps some systems would truly benefit from geophysical orientation. Heck, in the days of expensive picture tube computer monitors there was a different tube for ...
But why would you consider brass connectors because of 95% of boutique RCA if the idea is to wind up with the best signal path?
Of course not because of that! The ideal would be the connector I've shown but made with pure ...

Hi Romy and others,I'm trying to get my head around the tonearm/cartridge matching mechanics.First of all, are ALL cartridges much happier with a heavier tonearm? Even cartridges with a high compliance? My understanding of a "correct" arm effect...

It is more or less in the same direction like any Product Placement ( some call it review) from that group who lives from sales. That means, it is always the same "direction":
Rule No 1: Compare the object with something similar which is much...

OK, guys, thanks for your help.
It looks as I made it eventually to sound better. I increased the loading impedance to 90R (which hardly means anything, still can't figure out hoe much the Ortofon what to have it. They say 47K, which probably...

Ok, was playing the tonearm today all day long. It dose work fine. Unfortunately, I can’t say anything further on about its sound as I finally concluded that I need a better mono cartridge. Screw you Denon-102! I can’t listen this midrange pusher any...

Hi Romy,I am currently in the process of rebuilding my 834 PT. I see you don't use the capacitor bypass on V2, does this have any effect on overall gain of the corrector? I've recently acquired audio Technica ART7 cartridge which is low (0.12 mv) out...

Steve Leung, VAS Audio, saved my Ortofon MC3000II

better than ever now, and transients are better than ever now. Particulars are:
